ICMP Flood Attack
Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is one of the leading Internet protocols. It is used to send various error messages or diagnostics. This protocol sends unidirectional links, and no authentication is used. It allows a remote attacker to carry out an attack. With this type of attack, the attacker sends an abnormally high number of ICMP packets to the target server, especially those using the ping service. It tries to process every incoming request, which can lead to a denial of service. This is a common flood attack that becomes stronger if the victim responds to it. As a result of the ICMP Flood Attack, there is a significant slowdown in Internet applications, or disconnection from the Internet.
